F.A.Q.
What
do you cover in your Driver Education program?
The
major topics covered in our 4-day intensive course are: Driver's
responsibility The California vehicle code The California Driver
Handbook Rules of the road Physical and mental impairments Driver
attitudes Defensive driving strategies and techniques Major causes
of accidents And numerous other topics
What
will I be doing in a classroom for 30 hours?
Learning!!
We use visual aids, videos, reading, lectures, practice tests, and
even field trips. (You go outside and the instructor points out
the mistakes of the people driving by. It's really cool, unless
you're driving by.) What if I miss a day of Drivers Education? No
problem. You can check with our secretary and find out when you
can make it up.
Do
I have to take Drivers Ed?
If
you are under the age of 18, you are required to take Drivers Ed
as well as Drivers Training before you can get your license. Do
I have to have a permit? Yes. Regardless of your age, you have to
pass the written test and get a permit in order to learn to drive.
How long is my permit valid? Your permit is valid for one year from
the date of issue. If your permit expires you must renew it before
you can take lessons.
Can
I drive by myself?
On
a learner's permit you must be accompanied by a licensed driver
25 years or older. If you are caught driving without a license or
alone on a learner's permit, the police will impound your vehicle
for 30 days as well as write you a ticket that you will have to
go to court on and they could postpone your getting a license. This
is not something you want to mess around with.
How
long do I have to wait to get my license?
You
must be 15 ½ before you can take the written test to get a permit.
After you get your permit you must be practicing with supervision
for 6 months before you can go to get your license. There are no
exceptions.
Do
I have to take Driver's Training?
If
you want to get your license before you turn 18 then you must complete
Behind-The -Wheel training with an instructor. You must also practice
with your parent or other licensed driver for a total of 50 hours.
Ten of those hours must be at night. You do not have to document
those hours; they take your word for it.
Do
I have to have insurance?
No.
You will be covered by our insurance when you take Driver's Training
and you are covered by your parents insurance while driving with
them provided you have a learner's permit. Auto insurance companies
will not insure you until you have a license.
What
kind of vehicles do you use?
All
of our vehicles have dual brakes. Most of the vehicles are unmarked.
Meaning they don't say "Golden State Driving School" on the vehicle.
The reason for this is simple. It has been our experience that some
drivers actually try to intimidate student drivers by honking their
horns and other distractive actions. We feel that it is safer and
more beneficial to use unmarked cars. This is also an issue for
some teens. They just don't want to be driving around in a car that
screams "Golden State Driving School".
Can
I use the instructor's car for my driving test?
We
offer the use of our vehicle for the drive test for an additional
fee of $85.00. This includes free pick up and ½ hour of practice
before the test. You will need to schedule your test and then call
us to set up the appointment.
